Congratulations to PAA’s Amanda Egan and Cara Flahive who traveled to Germany in November to compete in the IDO World Tap Championship. Cara and Amanda joined 20 other dancers from the United States to form the 2014 Team USA. The team was coached and led by Alicia Monaco.
Amanda performed a solo in the Adult division, “All of Me” for which she received the GOLD Medal.
Amanda, Cara, and Angelina D’Albero from Connecticut performed a trio also in the adult division called “Royals”.
They received the GOLD Medal for “Royals”.
Amanda also had a duo, “Let it Go” with Angelina and a small group routine, “Common Pleasures”, both in the Adult division. The duo took the bronze medal.
Cara also performed a small group routine in the Junior division called “Havana”. Three other dancers from the Seven Star School of Performing Arts were in the small group with Cara. The girls won the GOLD Medal for “Havana”.
The road to Germany started in February, 2014. First, they had to submit a video to qualify their routines as part of Team USA.
After qualifying they practiced at Steven Stars School of Performing Arts in Brewster, New York for many months before they traveled to Germany to compete.
The competition was judged by a panel of judges with one judge from each main country at the event. Each routine had to pass through preliminary, quarterfinal and semifinal rounds before making it to the final round. Six routines in each category performed in the finals. 41 countries in total were represented at the event.
Amanda said that the arena seated nearly 2000 people, and the girls were excited to dance in front of such a large crowd.
She said that the experience was unforgettable – having been able to meet so many incredible tap dancers from around the world.
Congratulations again to Amanda and Cara and Team USA for all of their accomplishments, hard work and dedication.
We also want to send out a special thank you to Miss Alicia!
We are so proud of all of you!!
